Pierre Jules Mêne, French (1810-1879) A bronze model of a jockey and racehorse Jockey À Cheval No 1 raised on an oval naturalistic base signed PJ MÊNE , 42cm high Mêne first exhibited the wax version of this model at the Paris Salon of 1863. The original wax version is now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Reims. He exhibited the bronze a year later, and later editions were also cast by the Mêne-Cain workshop, Barbedienne and Susse Fres. Pierre Jules Mene (1810 - 1879). Two whippets at play, bronze, signed, 6in (15cm) high, 8¾in (22.3cm) wide. The underside with a hand written note stating that 'This Bronze which was purchased in Paris in 1855 is given to William Wurr in memory of John Bailey Denton...Dec 25, 1893. The plaster model was exhibited in Salon in 1848. No. 93 in Meme's catalogue. The whippets are Jiji and Gisella. good cast and varied patination.
