MÊNE (French 1810-1879) A LOST WAX CAST BRONZE SCULPTURE, "Taureau Normande/Bull," signed in bronze on base, verso impressed number 39 and inscribed letter "A", the bull stands over a whip laying on a dirt ground, raised on a canted corner, rectangular base. Height: 8 3/4" Width: 14" Depth: 5 3/4" Condition: Some mild surface wear, dust debris, one screw lacking from base, but overall in very good condition, wear commensurate with age. Pierre-Jules Mêne, (French 1810 ~ 1879), a patinated bronze model of a hound with game#, , third quarter 19th century, the hound seated on its haunches before a tree stump, with a hare, a pheasant and a hunting horn slung around a broken branch, the naturalistically cast oval base inscribed in the maquette P.J.MENE 1850, 30.5cm high, 35cm wide , , CATALOGUE NOTES: , , Mêne produced a large number of animal sculptures, mainly of domestic animals including horses, cows and bulls, sheep and goats which were in vogue during the Second Empire.
