Warner Dailey was an American antiques dealer, originally from New Jersey, living in London. His house in Earls Court - the kitchen of which is depicted here - was an "Aladdin's Cave" of all sorts of collectibles from trench art to ancient animal skeletons to 1960s plastic furniture. He was a constant supplier of props for films and television, and some of his various specialised collections made successful auctions. Malcolm Forbes met Dailey at Christie's, where he worked, in the early 1970s. Dailey showed Forbes the dilapidated Battersea House which Forbes renovated and set up as home for his London collection. He set up Dailey in his own business and employed him to add to the Forbes collections. We are grateful to the artist for his help in cataloguing this painting, which he regards as one of his best works.
