Lot 32 four prints CHARLES MARVILLE (french 1816-1879) "TURIN" Photographer's stamp bottom center and ink stamped title. Albumen print. each image approx.: 8 1/2 x 14 1/4 in. (21.6 x 36.2cm) Unframed (4). Estimate $1,000-2,000 All four very foxed overall, including areas on the photograph itslef. Margins ripped at various places. Dark gray smudges in several places on mount. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports. Heidelberg castle was one of the most popular stops of the Grand Tour. Among the many castle photographers, Marville was one of the first professional photographers to realize the need for quality views of the sites the rich tourists visited. - Slight oxidation mirroring in lower area, some light foxing spots in sky area, a few small losses in emulsion in upper edge, traces of previous mounting on the verso, otherwise in good condition.
