Both Histoire Naturelle 14 x 9 in. (sight), 23 1/2 x 17 1/2 in. (frame); both Botanical Prints 9 3/4 x 7 1/4 in. (sight), 10 3/4 x 8 1/4 in. (frame); All Uniformed 6 1/4 x 2 1/4 in. (sight), all 18 x 24 1/4 in. (framed together in one frame). Condition: Histoire Naturelle with margins. Both with a few scattered stains. Otherwise in good condition. Not examined out of frame. Note: Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux is considered the most important 18th century French ornithological folio. The work was edited by the Comte du Buffon (Georges Louis Leclerc) and published by Edme Louis Daubenton. The complete set includes 1,008 hand-colored prints of birds native to Europe, Asia and the Americas by French artist and engraver Francois Nicolas Martinet. All 11 x 9 1/2 in. Watercoloured copper engravings. With engraved title and part engraved signature. Upper left engraved numbering.
Each 25.5 x 21 cm (image). All in identical frames.
Scattered foxing. Scattered minor creasing, overall in fine condition with fresh colours. Provenance: - Schmitz-Eichhoff collection, Cologne.
Aquarellierte Kupferstiche. Im unteren Blattrand gestochen betitelt und teilweise gestochen signiert. Oben links mit gestochener Nummerierung.
Jeweils 25,5 x 21 cm (licht). Alle in identischen Rahmungen.
