Lot 45 ANDRÉ LHOTE (french, 1885-1962) "MAISONS DANS UN PAYSAGE" Signed bottom left, gouache on paper 11 3/8 x 15 1/2 in. (28.9 x 39.4cm) provenance: Private CollectionExhibited: Galerie Gauvreau, Montréal, "Russian Avant-Garde Art from the Schreiver Collection," January 20- March 9, 1986. Estimate $4,000-6,000 With the palest light staining (the colors slightly deeper at the extreme edges where they have been covered by the overmat), a 1 in. vertical crease in the blue at bottom center, and an attendant 1/2 in. horizontal soft scuff just to the right of this. The sheet taped to the overmat with brown paper tape along the four sheet edges. The paper watermark is MADE IN FRANCE. There is a pencil inscription in French verso that is difficult to read, images are available upon request from the department. Small piece of paper affixed to inside of overmat that indicates may have been sold at Christies. Tag reads "Christies East, December '83" Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
