MEASUREMENTS measurements height 45 1/4 in. alternate measurements 115 cm DESCRIPTION signed Jef Lambeaux to the base. bronze, dark green patina CATALOGUE NOTE Born in Antwerp in 1852, Joseph Maria Thomas (Jef) Lambeauxstudied at the Academy, working in particular in the workshop ofJoseph Geefs. He studied in Paris for three years and frequentedRome and Florence, where he was greatly inspired by the Baroquemasterpieces. First exhibiting in the Antwerp Salon in 1873 and inBrussels in 1880, he won the gold medal in 1881 at the BrusselsExhibition. He is best known for his Fountain of Brabo in Antwerpand the colossal relief of the Passion de l'Humanite in the Parc duCentenaire, in Brussels.

(56 cm.) high Lot Notes Jef (Joseph Maria Thomas) Lambeaux (d. 1908) was a leadingBelgian sculptor at the end of the 19th century. With its sinuouslyentwined mermaids and sea creatures, his most famous work, theBrabo fountain in Antwerp, is considered a precursor to the ArtNouveau movement.
