RENÉ LALIQUE (1860-1945) AN 'AMBRE DE SÎAM' PERFUME BOTTLE AND STOPPER, MODEL INTRODUCED 1920 Marcilhac Volnay 4, polished and frosted glass 4 5/8 in. (12 cm.) high engraved R. LALIQUE
One of Lalique's rarest commercial perfume bottles, this model is one in a line of styles created for the perfumerie Volnay of Paris France & Suresnes France. The dynamic stopper reveals a female nude among a bramble of thorns and it is these two themes that repeatedly appear, although independently, both in the line of bottles created for Volnay as well as throughout his prodigious oeuvre.
