Utagawa Hiroshige passed away on the September 6th, 1858 (Ansei 5), at the age of sixty-two. The last poem before he died is included on this print, at the end of the short biography by his friend and fellow artist Utagawa Kunisada: "I leave my brush at Azuma/the Eastern Road and go now on a journey to view the famous sights to the Western Paradise."
