Two views of Hamburg: "Schaarthorsbrücke und hintere Ansicht beim alten Waisenhause"; "Quai- Speicher vom Grasbrook aus gesehen". 1884/1879. 2 large-format albumen prints. 27 x 40 cm (48,5 x 57 cm) and 27 x 38 cm (46 x 55 cm). Flush-mounted to original board (time-stained along edges and slight traces of use), the first with photographer's name G. Koppmann & Co. , title and date printed below image on the mount, the second with handwritten title in ink and photographer's blindstamp G. Koppmann & Co. Photographen Hamburg 1879 below the image on the mount. These detailed large-format studies of the city of Hamburg were made by Georg Koppmann & Co., one of the foremost photographers of Hamburg urban views, in the second half of the 19th century. The photographs here reflect the city's status as a shipping center with its storage warehouses and rather cramped living quarters. - Minimal yellowing along edges, otherwise in good condition and with good contrasts.
