COMPANY PROFILE – business history Arcadja was founded in Brescia in 2002, a young and dynamic company motivated by one great passion, the one for art. The project, a merging of experiences in the fields of web design, information technology, marketing and communication, data filing and certifying, has led to the realisation of the portal www.arcadja.com: an absolutely innovative space online embracing a universe of services dedicated to art. The synergy of a close-knit team has given strength to an intense and targeted work which has contributed to the creation of the network: at the beginning of 2005, Arcadja's portal was launched with the exclusive function of virtual store, where subscribed professionals could carry out online trading operations. In 2006 the limits of access to the site were removed and the services of the portal started making use of new instruments, such as the auction calendar and the upcoming events, giving input to new relations and conventions with auction houses and national and international art institutions. After more than four years of gathering, certifying and optimizing data – operations entirely run within the structure of Arcadja without any external support - in January 2007 the archive of auction results was updated, becoming as essential instrument for professionals and art lovers motivated by the wish to understand the art market. The extraordinary progress made by Arcadja becomes concrete in the two-year period 2008-2009, when the portal is optimized by increasing the catalogue data and offering new services. Today the website has a more international capacity, providing its data in four languages: Italian, English, French and Spanish. THE PRODUCT – Arcadja’s activities Auctions Arcadja’s archive of auction results is undoubtedly the most relevant service proposed by the company, a functional instrument which gathers millions of results from visual art auctions worldwide. The database estimates and hammer prices provide users with detailed information regarding the trend of the art market and how it is doing. The sale of works of art at auction has a key role in the system of art economy, as a consistent portion of the market is sustained by this sector. Profile Auction Houses Profile Authors Users can find all the catalogue data by searching the category of auctions houses or authors, with the chance to carry out a transversal research and access further information, such as biographies, images and auction results. While auction houses can be viewed in a detailed alphabetic list, it is possible to get clarifications regarding artists by entering a name in the specific search engine. Once the author of interest has been identified, it is then possible to carry out a targeted research by using interactive means, such as the search by type of work, by date of realisation, by sale place or date, or even by estimate or hammer price. The real time conversion of hammer prices and estimates in four currencies, the conversion of the unit of measurement and the indication of the buyer’s premium, optimize the service making it easy to use all over the world. High-resolution images Each lot contained in Arcadja’s archive, except for rare cases, is provided with a high-definition descriptive image. Indeed, the miniature, attached to the description of a work, can be enlarged and observed in its details. Instrument of analysis Market statistics Besides the simple search of auction results, Arcadja offers all its clients an additional gear, an instrument of detailed analysis of the state of the market for each author present in its database with more than 50 works. The data gathered are processed in such a way as to provide users with an overview of the statistics relative to the artist’s economic trend, allowing a yearly evaluation and an analysis of tendencies in the long term. By using this service, users can immediately get useful information to move within the art market with more confidence. Auction calendar Auctions of the day With a specific calendar, users can select a date and refine their search according to different parameters to get preview updates about the auctions that are to be held on the days of interest. Furthermore, the homepage always shows a list of the auctions held on the current date. Notification works at auction The last innovative service conceived by Arcadja is the notification service, which allows users to receive a notification e-mail, in real time, each time the works of an artist of interest are put up for auction. A custom-made instrument studied and realised for collectors, even the most demanding ones, who can know well in advance when the sale session desired is going to take place. Art Magazine Arcadja’s Art Magazine is the free online magazine, in Italian and in English, created in October 2007 as a further project of the company. The magazine soon became a reference point for those who wish to be updated on the news of the art system in all of its aspects: exhibitions, auctions and news are made available to readers on a daily basis. Point of strength of the magazine – thanks to a team specialised in reviews and market analysis - are the articles written in relation to art economy, complete with precise data, which guarantee greater transparency in this sector. Top Lots The synergy between Art Magazine and Arcadja’s database gives life to the weekly top lot listing, a specific section which highlights the most relevant pieces sold at national and international auctions. Ten carefully selected lots, provided with images and short captions on estimates, hammer prices and places where auctions take place, summarise the whole week of sales. Art event calendar Arcadja has created for its magazine a new page to notify about events, an instrument for the publication and search of appointments with art. The new system offers users a double advantage: to circulate communications about initiatives and inform about the taking place of events, exhibitions, inaugurations, fairs, competitions and all that is centred on the art system. Arcadja has made it easier for readers to carry out their searches, by offering two browsing options: the calendar and the event map, with which it is possible to locate events geographically. Newsletter Arcadja’s Art Magazine also offers users a free service which allows them to receive every week an e-mail with the latest news published. By registering to the site or the magazine, users have the privilege to read information about art directly from their electronic mail. The newsletter, like the magazine, can be viewed in Italian and in English. |
