Description: LOUIS ICART (FRENCH 1880-1950) Fumee , 1926 etching and drypoint with hand coloring plate size: 36 x 49 cm (14 1/8 x 19 1/4 in.) pencil signed in margin lower right, numbered A 102/350 and blindstamp lower left ILLUSTRATED W. R. Holland, C. P. Catania, N. D. Isen, Louis Icart: The Complete Etchings , (Atglen: Schiffer Publishing Ltd, 1998), p: 132, no. 275 LOT NOTES During the second half of the 1920s, Louis Icart continued to explore the female sensuality in his works, imbuing the formerly simple scenes with a newfound, subtle eroticism. This particular composition from 1926, Fumee , has been singled out by Icart scholars and authors of the print catalogue raisonne (who divide the artist````s work as before and after 1925) as one of the works that “gave definition to the genre thereafter.” Ibid., p.111.
