Description:
The present idyllic seascape is the work of the Belgian painter Léon Huygens and was painted around 1900. The composition is rendered in the Impressionist manner and shows a frog catcher, standing in the water of a lake. Behind him opens a meadow and mountain landscape, showing red roofs of a village. The left riverside is lined with rocks and foliage trees. The painting is mounted in a gilt wooden frame. Lower left is the artist's signature ‘L. Huygens’’’’. The painting is in good condition with a fine horizontal crack and pressure marks in the paint surface due to the stretcher frame. The frame shows a few fine cracks and nicks. The overall dimensions, with frame, are 23.5 x 32 cm. The stretcher frame measures 17.5 x 26.5 cm.
