William Huston traveled to Eastern Long Island around 1874/75 andlived in Patchogue, in Suffolk County, in the 1880s. He exhibitedLong Island coastal scenes at the National Academy of Design in1882, 1885, and 1886.
Although the exact location of this seascape has not beenidentified, it bears some resemblance to Huston's painting
PlumbGut, Long Island Sound
from 1874, depicting a view of boatssailing on choppy waters off the North Fork.

Frame rubbing. Relined. Appears to be minor restoration wherethe surf meets the sand as well as a 1'''' area to the right ofcenter. Cannot detect further inpainting under UV light.
