On paper, we find marks of human creativity- paintings done by children, notes taken in class, architectural drawings, mathematicians 'formula, artists' sketches. These original ideas have ultimately led to the establishment of laws, theories and art. All of which, in turn, have made a great impact on human civilization. In this way, the ordinary paper medium functions to record the wisdom, ideas and creativity of mankind.
For artists, sketching, drawing and painting on paper are not only the means for them to depict inspiration, mood, landscape and objects; it is also an important act in the creative process. The tip of a pen acts a metaphor for the artist's brain. Artists transform intangible ideas into lines, symbols and images whenever and wherever they desire. Works on paper are more intimate; they record the private thoughts of artists over time. Only the sophisticated watercolour artist can master the unpredictability of ink and watercolor medium. However, even experienced water colour artists have to be in dialogue with their medium. They have to communicate and respond aesthetically and organically with the medium, to create a balance between water and form. The process of printmaking also includes this element of unpredictability. The artist has to respond intuitively to allow magic to happen on the page.
Art documents the history, civilization, wisdom, creativity and emotion of all mankind. Letting art come into our lives allows us to travel through different historical periods, even though we exist in the 21st Century. Art reminds us of our humanity, our struggles and our triumphs, and enriches our lives immensely.

GAO HUIJUN

Gao Huijun Born in Baoding, Hebei Province. In 1992 he graduated from the Central Academy of Crafts and Arts. Among the many exhibitions in which he has participated, both at home and abroad are included: 'Guo Hui Jun', a solo exhibition at the Jiuyue Gallery, Beijing, 1996; The Artseasons Gallery, Singapore, 2001/3 and 'Chinese Avante-Garde' at the Vanessa Art House, Jakarta, Indonesia, 2004.
In Gao Huijun’’’’s “Passing China •Trembling Image”, Chinese mountains and waters have come together with Van Gogh’’’’s starry night, showing a lurking uniformity between different artists in terms of the eternity of time and the ultimate query about life. In the work, the distant atmosphere of Chinese traditional mountain and ink paintings contradicts with the controlled depression of Western landscape, which brings innovative impact to the viewers as the intention of the artist.
