PROPERTY OF AN IMPORTANT EUROPEAN COLLECTOR Vlastimil Hofmann 1881 - 1970 THE AIR OF SPRING Signed Vlastmil Hofmann, dated 1915 and inscribed Praga (upper left) Oil on board 27 1/2 by 38 1/2 in.; 70 by 98 cm Painted in 1915. Oil on board. Surace in generally good condition, colors are lively and fresh. Under UV light; no apparent inpainting visible. Active pigment floresces in thefigures faces, and minor pigment separation is visible in the proper right hand sleeve of the female figure.

Pencil and watercolour on paper, 33 x 29 cm, mounted, glazed, undated, signed lower right. Czech painter of genre, he lived in Poland from 1889, he studied under J. Malczewski and J. Stanislawski in Cracow, in 1899 he settled in Paris where he studied under L. Gerome. In 1939 he went to Israel and after the war returned to Poland.
