H. Hinckley 1848", 34" x 27". Presented in a Victorian giltwood and gesso frame. Provenance: From a Mississippi Plantation. Condition Report: Scattered nicks and areas of abrading especially at left and lower edges. Evidence of past restoration: small areas of inpainting across canvas including lower edge, mid-left in background, t-shaped area at upper right corresponding to a repair with patch en verso. Difficult for UV light to completely penetrate varnish layer in center of canvas. Stretcher shadows along all four sides. Scattered areas of paint loss. Overall faint craquelure. Hinckley , l.r.; 26 x 36 inches; framed: 38 1/2 x 48 inches Other Notes: Thomas Hinckley was a Milton, Massachusetts artist known for his paintings of cattle. He studied with William Mason in Philadelphia and later exhibited his work at the Royal Academy of London. Estimate $3,000-5,000 Condition: good restored condition; nice period carved and gilt gesso wood frame; U.V. shows touch up restoration throughout; vertical area along right edge (restored abrasion); 3-4 inch areas along bottom foreground and several spots in sky; (<12%)
