DIANA HILL NÉE DIETZ (BRITISH, C. 1765 - D. 1844) Mrs Robert Graham, full-length in a landscape, leaning against astone pillar, in brown riding habit, frilled white cravat, holdinga cream hat with white plumes in her right hand signed and dated 'Hill. 1788' (lower left) on ivory rectangular, 6½ x 4 in. (165 x 101 mm.), ormolu easel frame withrope-twist surround Prospective purchasers are advised that several countriesprohibit the importation of property containing materials fromendangered species, including but not limited to coral, ivory andtortoiseshell. Accordingly, prospective purchasers shouldfamiliarize themselves with relevant customs regulations prior tobidding if they intend to import this lot into another country. Full-length miniatures by this artist are rare. A signed anddated oval example depicting Lady Macleod seated with a book in alandscape, painted in Calcutta in 1787 is in the Victoria andAlbert Collection (see M. Archer, India and British Portraiture1770-1825, London, 1979, p. 33, plate 315).
