The painting has been glue lined to a linen support to which it is well adhered. The tacking edges remain and the painting appears to have been remounted on its original 4-member, mortise and tenon stretcher. Shallow corner draws and undulations are present. The paint layer exhibits extensive but extremely fine drying crackle and no mechanical or age cracks. There is minor retouching and some reinforcement of shadows in the white horse and the blacksmith's white shirt. Generally in good to very good condition.
