Hebert, titled DOLLARD DES ORMEAUX and dated 1910 onthe base Leslie Hindman Auction, Chicago, May, 2009 Private Collection, Montreal Daniel Drouin (ed.), Louis-Philipe Hébert, Québec, 2001, p. 295and p. 296 for a related bronze and a drawing, reproduced Adam Dollard des Ormeaux (c. 1636-1660) emigrated from France toCanada in 1657. He was appointed the Commander of the garrison atVille-Marie (Montreal). In the Spring of 1660, he led a group ofsixteen young men up the Ottawa River to attack the Iroquois. Theywere outnumbered and all killed; they became Quebec heroes. Untilrecently, Quebecers celebrated Dollard Day on the same day as QueenVictoria Day is celebrated in the rest of Canada.
