C.T. Harper, late 19th Century A Whaiherehere meeting House, Korinti, Whanganui signed and dated 'C.T. Harper/1897', inscribed 'Title/A TribalMeeting House:New Zealand Built and decorated by the Mauris/No2Artist/(Miss) C T Harper/19 Pembroke Gardens/Kensington W' (on theartist's label attached to the backboard pencil watercolour heightened with white 14¾ x 21in. (37.5 x 53.3cm.) Lot Notes Whaiherehere was the original meeting house of Korinti, on theEast bank of the Wanganui River, South of the Metatiwi in the NorthIsland. This watercolour shows the interior with the famous wallcarvings, many of which are now held in the Wanganui museum, afterthe meeeting house had been demolished.
