Notes: The maker of the wakazashi is the first generation Tango (no) kami Kanemichi, first named Naomichi or Kichibei, the son of the second Yoshimichi of Kyoto. His works include suguha and, as with this blade, sudareba after his father's special hamon. He sometimes engraved the chrysanthemum mon on his swords, whereas the second generation, whose tangs and signature are very similar, did not. Kanemichi I died in 1671. The katana was made by Mutsu (no) kami San'ami Kanetaka, who worked around the 1660's and 1670s. He was from Seki village of Mino Province, hence his Mino style hamon and particular higaki style file marks, and moved to Echizen where the second generation worked at about the same time. The daisho has sound blades in fine mountings, and perfectly exemplifies the 'sword of the samurai' during the Edo period.
