§ Oliver Hall, RA, RE, RWS (British, 1869-1957) A Pool in a Forest oil on canvas 55 x 75cm (21 x 29in) Exhibited: Royal Academy, London, 1946 (according to an old inscription) Other Notes: Oliver Hall was a landscape painter in oil and watercolour and also an etcher with a preference for rugged moorland and Spanish subjects. Hall studied at the Royal College of Art from 1887–1890, then attended Westminster and Lambeth Schools of Art for private art tuition with D A Williamson of Liverpool, working at Broughton-in-Furness. Hall travelled extensively in Spain, France and Italy and began to exhibit etchings at the Royal Academy in 1890. He lived at Pulborough, Sussex, and later at Ulverston, Lancashire, where he died on 5th December 1957. His son painted under the name of Claude Muncaster.
