Comparable works include another drawing of a stable interior, in the Rijksprentenkabinet Amsterdam (inv. 1957:170), and a series of paintings of different types of horses, in Kasteel Cannenburch, Vaassen.

Tethart Philip Christiaan Haag (1737-1812) Two Dogs resting in a hilly Landscape signed and dated 'TPCHaag/1798.' pencil, watercolour, black ink and grey wash framing lines 205 x 224 mm. Lot Notes As a painter and curator of paintings, Haag was attached to thecourt of Stadtholder Prince Willem V of Orange (1748-1806) in TheHague. Haag is best known for his portraits of horses. Dogs, usedfor hunting - a privilege of the nobility - were likewise anappropriate theme. His watercolour of one of the Stadtholder'shorses was sold in these Rooms, 15 November 1993, another is in theRijksprentenkabinet, Amsterdam, J.W. Niemeijer, Hollandseaquarellen uit de 18de eeuw, exhib. catalogue, Zwolle Amsterdam,1990, pp. 58-9, no. 23.
