Diplômé de l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, Marcel Gimond (1894-1961) est l'élève d'Aristide Maillol. Il côtoie Raoul Dufy et Auguste Renoir. En 1937 il crée plusieurs sculptures pour le Palais de Chaillot et le Palais du Trocadéro à l'occasion de l'Exposition Universelle. Il est notamment l'auteur de la sculpture en bronze 'Flore', qui en orne la terrasse supérieure, baptisée place des Droits de l'Homme. De 1946 à 1960 il dirige un atelier à l'Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris. Considéré comme un grand portraitiste, il reçoit en 1957, le Grand Prix National des Arts

Marcel Gimond (1894-1961), after having studied at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon, became a pupil of Aristide Maillol. For the Exposition Universelle of 1937 in Paris, he made several sculptures for the Palais de Chaillot and the Palais du Trocadéro, including the bronze figure of Flore, which was installed on the upper terrasse. From 1946 to 1960 he was in charge of a programm at the National Fine Art School in Paris and was awarded the 'Grand Prix National des Arts' in 1957
