Probably a little
faded but still retains some bright reds and greens in the flowers,
some fine scattered fox marking, also fine scattered marking where
work has probably been eaten by insects, now showing as white
specking throughout predominantly the sky. Signed and dated lower
left, in an ornate Florentine carved and gilt wood frame which is
in good order.

Description:
GIALLINA, ANGEOS (1857-1939). Two Britishwar-ships, probably the HMS Ramillies and HMS Orion. Pencil andwatercolour on paper, signed and dated "98", verso on the framingcrowned collector's mark "HM Queen Alexandra".According to theconsigner the work has been property of Queen Alexandra of GreatBritain and is said to be registerd in her collection at the 13thof april 1898. It is reported that the painting hung at VillaHvidore north of Copenhagen, which was the Danish summer residenceof her and her sister, Tsarina Maria Feodorovna of Russia. It issaid that the tsarina inherited the work and that it has been soldon her estate auction at Villa Hvidore at the 10th of April1929.

Laut Angaben des Einlieferers aus derSammlung Königin Alexandras von England, in deren Sammlung es am13. April 1898 erfasst worden sein soll. Das Bild soll sich in derVilla Hvidore nördlich von Kopenhagen befunden haben, die siegemeinsam mit ihrer Schwester Zarin Maria Feodorovna von Russlandals Sommersitz nutzte. Das Werk soll durch Erbschaft in den Besitzder Zarin gelangt und anlässlich der Versteigerung ihres Nachlassesin der Villa Hvidore am 10. April 1929 veräußert worden sein.

Lot Notes
The Temple of the Winds is reputed to be the oldestmeteorological observatory in the world. Constructed around 100B.C., the building is a small octagonal tower and at the centre ofthe roof is a wind vane, the figure of Triton, whose 'sceptre'always points to the wind octant. The eight sides of this templewere built to face one of these directions and on each side wassculptured a human figure in relief, representing the character ofa particular wind.
