Michael Gemmell (b.1950) HARBOUR signed lower right oil on canvas 69 by 69cm., 27 by 27in. Born in Coleraine, Co. Derry, Gemmell studiedat the National College of Art in Dublin from 1966 to 1968 and atthe College of Art in Limerick from 1971 to 1972. The artist hasdescribed his work as a 'bird's eye view 'of the landscapes thatappeal to him, namely, the Irish bog land, the Burren and theislands of the West. Gemmell's interpretation of these terrainsembodies a delicate balance between the representational and theabstract. He is represented in the collections of the OPW and Bankof Ireland among others and has exhibited regularly at the RHA andwith the Kennedy Gallery, Davis Gallery, and the WaldockGallery.
