''A View in Connecticut'', man fishing in a punt, signed and dated lower right: Edward Gay. 1860, oil on canvas laid to panel, 20.5'' H x 27.5'' W, est: $1500/2000.
Condition Report:
Visual: Stable craquelure and crazing throughout. An isolated area of paint shrinkage in the center of the tree group. A spot of loss along the upper left edge. Discolored varnish. Tacking edges removed when laid down to panel. Blacklight: A nickel-sized spot of touch-up in the upper right. Some scattered crack-fill in the sky and in the lower left quadrant.

Surface grime. Frame rubbing. There are three vertical cracks along the upper edge, the largest being 2 inches. There are four vertical cracks in the lower edge, the largest being 1 1/2 inches. There is possibly some inpaint in the trees and the bank at the right of the river. Dense varnish, unable to dectect further restoration under UV light.
