Provenance: Private Austrian Collection.
Friedrich Gauermann who, after a short period spent as a pupil at the Vienna Academy, educated himself, strove in his works to bring together animal, human and landscape and thus to create a single, living whole. His chief artistic interest lay in portraying the atmosphere of a scene in his paintings. Gauermann’’’’s works were received enthusiastically and in 1836 he was appointed a member of the Vienna Academy.
