Fries, titled, dated and numbered verso: Feb. 1933 / #1524. Literature: ed. B.F. Dixon, ''Too Late: The Picture and the Artist: A Tribute to the Dean'', San Diego, CA, 1969, p. 102, no. 1524. Note: According to the artist's note in his catalogue of paintings, Fries went to Indian wells and spent 6 days starting on November 20. The present landscape is the eighth painting listed from that visit. The piece was originally priced at $100. Provenance: sale: Carl Skinner, Jan. 8, 1942, acquired from the artist; Private Collection, Carlsbad, CA. Condition: Visual: Generally good condition. Craquelure scattered throughout, concentrated mainly in the sky upper right and upper center. Blacklight: No evidence of restoration under blacklight.
