NB
Barnett Freedman was a painter, printmaker, draughtsman andteacher, born in East London to a poor Jewish family then recentlyarrived from Russia. By 1916 he was working as a draughtsman to amonumental mason and then studied under William Rothenstein at St.Martins School of Art and subsequently at the Royal College of Art1922-5. After graduating, he began to exhibit at the NEAC andbecame a pioneer in reviving colour lithography. By the time of hisdeath, Freedman had established a firm reputation as an illustratorand designer of posters, stamps, books and book jackets.
