Description:
Myles Birkett Foster (1825-1899)
watercolour,
'Loch Leven Castle',
monogrammed, Exhibition labels verso,
6 x 7.75in.
Possibly a little faded but still retaining a fair strength of colour, one or two tiny dirt specks in the sky but overall in fair to good condition, monogrammed lower left, in a discoloured washline mount and gilt card border, gilt gesso scroll frame with losses to the edges, Christie's no.DR456 verso along with exhibition label catalogue no, 90... as Birkett Foster, further exhibition label no.908 stating lent by W.Rogers and an additional label of catalogue no. 71 with title as Ben Venue and Ellen Isle, Loch Catrine and owner as E. Ellen. Further investigation to the back of the card that the work is mounted onto is conflicting title as Loachlaven Castle no.76 and inscribed in pencil which relates to a further old watercolour loan exhibition label. Venue title also pasted on back so some conflict as to the correct title however we think we have chosen the right one, backboard to the work loose from frame,
