Evans, 19th/20th century, TrenthamHall, signed and dated 1900, watercolour, 33.5 x 47.5cm.; 13.25 x 18.75in. * Trentham Hall was theStaffordshire seat of the Dukes of Sutherland - a magnificentVictorian, Italianate house, which was eventuallydoomed by the relentless expansion of the nearby urban areas. If ithad survived it would have easily been one of the truly greathouses of England. By 1898, a profile in Country Lifemagazine highlighted that the lake at Trentham was now polluted bysewage from the nearby Potteries. Abandoned by 1907, no-one would buy it and it could not even be given away, and it was demolished in 1912. Estimate:£200.00 - £400.00
