william emmett (1671-1736) the temple church, london, looking east engraving, circa 1710, a very good impression of this rare print, on paper with a strasbourg lily in crowned shield watermark, with wide margins, a circa 220 mm repaired vertical tear in upper right, a central horizontal fold partly broken through, foxmarks and other minor defects, glued to support sheet along upper and lower edges of sheet verso; with a group of six 17th and 18th century german and english rare engravings and broadsides, in varying condition (7) this rare view of the interior of the temple church in london leads the eye from its elevated central rotunda built about 1185 towards the nave, a beautiful example of the 'first pointed' or 'early english' style. adorned in the taste of the age in 1682 by sir christopher wren, it lost much of its historical character when restored in the 19th century.
