Harry Eaton and dated 87 (ll) Oil on canvas laid to board 24 x 36 inches Provenance: Private collection Described in 1893 as a "landscape limner of great virility and keenly sensitive perceptions," Charles Henry Eaton enjoyed widespread acclaim in American art circles. His poetic renderings of native scenery were exhibited regularly in the national annuals and in other important displays of contemporary art. Influenced by the French Barbizon School, he favored images in the manner of Inness of the paysage intime , which he rendered in a loose, expressive style. He was commended for painting nature "found only out of doors where one breathes, sees and thinks of nothing else." His directness and sincerity are apparent in his tranquil Marshlands . C The Spanierman Gallery, LLC Collection of American Art Estimate $3,000-5,000 Frame rubbing. Surface grime. There is a tiny loss along the upper right edge. There is a dense varnish, unable to detect further restoration under UV light.
