André Dunoyer de Segonzac (French, 1884-1974) Golfe de Saint-Tropez signed 'a Dunoyer de Segonzac' (lower left) pen, black ink, watercolour and gouache on paper 56.7 x 77.6cm (22 5/16 x 30 9/16in). Executed circa 1938 PROVENANCE Authur Tooth & Sons Ltd, London. This work is sold with a photo-certificate from Madame Dragonette de Varine-Bohan, dated le 1er décembre 2011 . This view is thought to have been painted from the artist's house in Saint Tropez. André Dunoyer de Segonzac first discovered the town in 1908 when he rented a house owned by Paul Signac. Despite his extensive travels throughout France and abroad he would always return to this local countryside. Saint Tropez became the setting for much of his work where he lived until his death in 1974.
