II, pp. 599-605 Country Life , 23 and 30 December 1939 Etienne Robo, Medieval Farnham (Farnham, 1935) When the present work was executed Farnham Castle belonged to theSee of Winchester, although by 1952 it was partly used as a palaceby the Bishop of Guildford. Devis's painting shows the Castle withBishop Foxe's brick tower which was built in the early sixteenthcentury.

the work but otherwise fine, in an old washline mount with slim
gilt frame with Manning Galleries label verso. Provenance: from the
Manning Estate.
