French artist, 1828-1890 Condition Report*: Both paintings are in good to very good condition on unlined canvas and original stretchers. Probably the original oval frames. Surface grime and thin yellowed varnish commensurate with age. Fountain scene has a small ding in the canvas towards the top in the sky which has broken the paint layer; it has only a very few spots of restoration, notably a small passage in sky at very top of the canvas which is visible to the naked eye. The Windmill painting has older overpainting in the sky in the large clouds, and small scattered strengthenings in the dark spots of some of the buildings. *Heritage Auction Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
