Provenance: Acquired by Mrs Anne Ledwith from the artist in 1957;thence by descent; Irish Art Sale, Adams, 23 March 2005 (lot 108);Private Collection, Northern Ireland.

Literature: PAUL HENRY: PAINTINGS DRAWINGS ILLUSTRATIONS, by Dr S.B. Kennedy, No. 907 (p.279, illus), which reads:
Probably a scene in either Connemara or Co Kerry. A label on thereverse, written by the original owner, reads: 'I bought The BogRoad from Paul Henry at his house in Bray on Oct 19, 1957. He wasthen completely blind.' The original title is on a label on thereverse; also the remains of a Combridge Gallery, Dublin, label.Dated 1935 in 1957 Dublin & Belfast and Shannon exhibitioncatalogues; the handling of paint, with moderately heavy impasto,also suggests such a date of execution.

Jill Dennis was born in North Cheshire, England. She attendedGoldsmiths College and completed her M.A in painting at The RoyalAcademy Schools. She now lives in Cork and teaches at the CrawfordCollege of Art and Design. She has exhibited extensively throughoutEurope and is represented in Ireland by Taylor Galleries,Dublin.
