Estimate $2,000-3,000
Both are unlined and have generally unobtrusive uneven cockling to parts of canvases
1. The Garden Pond: there is an approx. 2 inch long horizontal surface scratch that under u.v. light may or may not be retouched. There are some minor, scattered surface losses/slight abrasions. There are some spotty highlights, including to parts of flora at bottom and mostly to tree at upper right quadrant. We believe this spotty highlights that appear dark under u.v. light are pigment that is fluorescing, rather than restoration
2. The companion to the above…some surface losses at upper center left and to part of tree. Much of the sky appears to be restored, or at least appears dubious relative to its originality. There is an approx. 1 1/4 x 3/8 inch semi-circular area that fluoresces under u.v. light at center right edge of canvas - we believe this is likely a varnish inconsistency, not restoration. As with the other painting in this lot, we believe the spotty areas that appear dark under u.v. light are a result of pigments used, not restoration.
