was created by the Russian dancer and choreographer Léonide Massine in 1942 for the Ballet Theatre of New York (presently the American Ballet Theatre). It was adapted from Eugene Pushkin's Romantic poem "Gypsies" and set to Tchaikovsky's Trio in A Minor.
Aleko
was performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and was in the company's repetoire from 1942 to 1946, with several revivals in 1947, 1953, 1955, and 1968. (1)
