Sir Alfred James Munnings (1878-1959): 'Study of Solario - Newmarket 1925', pencil and watercolour heightened in white with annotations unsigned 32cm x 45cm. Solario British Thoroughbred (1922-1945) bred by 4th Earl of Dunraven, owned by Sir John Rutherford, trained by Reginald Day, sold as a yearling for 47,000 guineas, won St Leger 1925, Ascot Gold Cup 1926 and Epsom Coronation Cup 1926. Leading sire in GB 1937. The Auctioneers acknowledge the help of David Evans (son of Gilbert Evans close friend of Munnings and Laura Knight) in authenticating this lot. £5000.00 - £7000.00
