Sir Alfred James Munnings (1878-1959): 'Study of Solario - Newmarket 1925', pencil and watercolour heightened in white with annotations unsigned 32cm x 45cm. Solario British Thoroughbred (1922-1945) bred by 4th Earl of Dunraven, owned by Sir John Rutherford, trained by Reginald Day, sold as a yearling for 47,000 guineas, won St Leger 1925, Ascot Gold Cup 1926 and Epsom Coronation Cup 1926. Leading sire in GB 1937. The Auctioneers acknowledge the help of David Evans (son of Gilbert Evans close friend of Munnings and Laura Knight) in authenticating this lot. £5000.00 - £7000.00

Charles Edward Dixon (British 1882-1934): 'The Steamship Marbella running foul of HMS Galatea in the Humber 1898', watercolour signed, part of the original title label verso 35cm x 55cm Provenance: the Marbella was built by William Hamilton of Glasgow for Walter S Bailey of Hull in 1894, on the 10th Feb. 1898 she sank in Hull Roads outward for Hamburg after collision with the armoured cruiser HMS Galatea. This watercolour was used as the original to record the event in the London Illustrated News
