RANDALL DAVEY (American, 1887-1964) MAN AND MONKEY sgn. l.l. Randall Davey, o/c, 40 by 32 in., framed, 44 by 35.5 in. title and artist on reverse Prov. From the wife of the artist to the present owner's mother. The consignor's mother was secretary and bookkeeper in the 1950's in Manhattan to Mrs. Cyrus Mc Cormick II. Randall Davey was Mrs. Mc Cormick's first husband. Cyrus Mc Cormick II was her second husband. (His grandfather Cyrus Mc Cormick was the inventor and founder of the Mc Cormick Harvesting Machine). The painting was given to the consignor's mother by Mrs. Mc Cormick and remained in the family until this time. This painting was displayed, on loan, at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C. which founded in 1869, was one of the first private museums in the United States. Randall Davey, was born in East Orange, New Jersey (died Santa Fe). He was a member of the National Academy and a member of the National Association of Portrait Painters. His works can be found in The Whitney Museum of American Art, Chicago Art Institute, Cleveland Museum of Art, and in many private collections. Davey was pictured in Life Magazine in 1949. Canvas needs re-stretching. Old repair in background, right of monkey.
