Description:
Henry Dasson
, b. 1825, d. 1896

A French patinated bronze bust of a young girl with braids, after the model by Jacques-Francois- Joseph Saly (1717-1776). Signed Henry Dasson 1881. Paris, late 19th century. H. 49 cm.

Henry Dasson (d. 1896) is recorded as having worked in Paris at 106, rue Vieille-du-Temple. Dasson specialized in reproducing a wide range of furniture and objets d'art of high quality in the style of Louis XIV, XV and XVI, often directly copying known pieces. Since 1870 he produced an impressive range of pieces for the Paris Expositions from 1878 until 1895.

The French born sculptor Jacques Saly worked in France, Denmark, and Italy made the original bust of the little girl after the drawing of Francois Boucher (1703-1770) which can be seen at the Fricks Collection in New York. The identification of the little girl is not sure. It has been suggested that she was the daughter of Madame de Pompadour called Alexandrine d'Etiolles. The bust was sculpted in Rome in 1744, and it is more likely that it depicts a daughter of the director of the French Academy in Rome. The bust was first exhibited at the Salon in Paris in 1759 and later at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1769. It has since been reproduced several times.

the Louis XVI style, although he produced several models based on
