Edward Alfred Cucuel (American, 1875-1954) Portrait of a Dr Hermann Steininger signed 'Cucuel' (lower left) and inscribed 'Justizrat Dr. Hermann Steininger gematt Feb. 1925 in München von EDWARD CUCUEL ' and 'To my dear Maggie - Cucuel München Feb. 1925' (on the reverse) oil on canvas 33 x 32 in. (83.8 x 81.4 cm.) Born in San Francisco, painter and illustrator Edward Cucuel worked in Switzerland. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon d'Automne. Cucuel became an associate member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1913. His repertoire included portriats such as the one seen here, war scenes, nudes, genre scenes, landscapes, and flowers.
