Description: Thomas Creswick (English, 1811-1869), The Falls oil on canvas, signed at lower left, presented in the likely original gilt composition frame with gallery plaque reading "T. Creswick, R. A." SS 23.5 x 19.75 in.; DOA 33.5 x 29.5 in. Creswick is among the most noted Birmingham School artists. In 1850, likely around the time this painting was completed, he was elected a full member of the Royal Academy. Thomas Creswick, R.A. (Sheffield 1811-1869 London) On the road from Caernarvon to Llanberis, North Wales signed with initials 'T.C.' (lower left) and inscribed 'On the Road from Caernarvon to Llanberris [sic]' (lower right) and further signed and inscribed 'T. Creswick Linden Grove (?)' (on the reverse) pencil and watercolour, on paper 9½ x 7 3/8 in. (24.2 x 18.8 cm.); A watercolour of Dovedale; and A watercolour of a street in Southall, both by Thomas Stothard, R.A. (3) Creswick evidently made several trips to North Wales. In 1835 he was engaged, together with David Cox and William Cattermole, to illustrate Thomas Roscoe's Wanderings and Excursions in North Wales.
