117 . Thomas Bigelow Craig (American, 1849-1924) 17-1/2" x 26-3/4" Cows watering. Watercolor on board, signed in the lower left, apprx. sight size 17-1/2" x 26-3/4", matted and framed under glass overall apprx. 28" x 35-1/2". Known for his bucolic landscapes with grazing cows, Thomas Craig was born in Philadelphia where he remained until 1889 and then moved to New York City until 1899. He finally settled in Rutherford, New Jersey, but maintained a summer studio in Woodland Valle, near Phoenicia, New York. He was largely self taught, but his activity in the Philadelphia Sketch Club, 1873 to 1876, suggests he was a student of Thomas Eakins. He exhibited for forty-five years at the National Academy of Design. He frequently painted in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. www.askart.com Condition: Slightly time toned. Matting is discolored with age. Attached to matting with paper tape at the upper corners; a few remnants of spots of adhesive and tape from former framings. Frame finish with wear. Circa 1900, ascene with structure and figures, signed at the lower rightcorner. Measurements: 29” x 19 ½”, the frame 41 ½” x 32”. Condition: Not viewed out of the frame, appears to be in very good condition,the gilt frame is probably original to the piece and is in verygood condition with minor losses and some old repairs.
