Publisher's vellum backed buff boards, the upper cover with Gordon Craig's initials in a a medallion, top edge gilt. 9 5/8 x 7 3/8 inches (24 x 19 cm); xix, [1], 296 pp., 20 tipped-in plates throughout.
The vellum spine a bit toned, a few spots of foxing just clear of the fine Steichen gravure portrait

32 beautiful theatrical designs including 11 in color. Large folio (20 1/4x15 1/4 inches), gilt-stamped vellum-backed red cloth; top edges trimmed and gilt; original paper chemise and cloth slipcase, worn. Though out-of-series and unsigned,
this copy reported to be that of printer humphrey milford
and one of the 105 copies on Montval hand-made paper, from a total edition of 605. The Pretenders is considered second in importance only to the Moscow Hamlet. London: Oxford University Press, 1930
