Sal Meijer (DUTCH, 1878-1965) Aan den Omval, Amsterdam signed 'S. Meijer' (lower right) oil on panel 39 x 50 cm. Painted circa 1910. Literature A. Grondman, Sal Meijer. Zo naïef nog niet, Amsterdam 1986, p. 142, no. XIV, (ill.). Exhibited Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum, 20e tentoonstelling St. Lucas, October 1910. Lot Notes The railway bridge in the painting Aan den omval, Amsterdam frames the area behind it: The south east of Amsterdam and the cultivation on and behind the Ringdijk, Watergraafsmeer or Weesperzijde. The railway bridge in the present painting dates from around the 1840's. In this work Meijer literally captured history, today we see a different iron railway bridge that was build in 1974.
