Frederick Albert Clark (British, fl. 1906-1909) A dark bay trotting pony and cart in a landscape signed lower right "Frederick Albert Clark 1911" oil on canvas 49 x 60cm (19 x 23in) Old stretcher bar marks can be seen from the front. Yellowed varnish. Rub marks to the sky. Oil on canvas, unlined with a Winsor and Newton supplier's stamp on the reverse. There are a few small losses to the paint layer but overall it appears stable. An old varnish has been partially removed, although the surface is even and glossy. There are scattered retouchings across the painting. The frame has a few small chips and losses to the gilding.

Lots 331-335The following five paintings represent stud horses owned by Ernest Samuel Stock (the grandfather of the vendor). They were kept at The Stud Farm, Bradfield, near Manningtree, Essex. Stock principally provided Hackney and Shire stallions to serve mares on farms throughout East Anglia.In 1883, the Hackney Stud Book Society was formed and the first Stud Book, Volume 1 was produced a little while later. The current Stud Book Volume is No. 54, published in 2000.The English Cart Horse Society was founded in 1876 and published their first Stud Book two years later.
