A lead garden figure of a musician in the manner of work by John Cheere , circa 1800, depicted standing and raising a gourd to his smiling face, his mandolin resting by his feet, on a loosely rectangular base, 151cm high, 62cm wide John Cheere (1709 ~ 1787), was the leading producer of lead statuary for noble and wealthy clients, as well as working in plaster. Contemporary accounts of his yard, which was situated on Hyde Park Corner indicate that his oeuvre was highly varied and included rustic figures as well as classical statues and busts from antiquity
